February: More Than Meets The Eye

February is a very important month.

Not only is it Black History Month…

The birth month of one of the greatest reggae musicians ever, Bob Marley…

But February also happens to be Heart awareness month.

Now, some of you may have heard of GO RED, which happens in February to raise awareness for women’s heart health.

No matter how you remember February, you need to remember the whole purpose surrounding this month – awareness.

Of course, we want to remind you and raise your awareness to the fact that heart health is a very important subject and one that should NOT be ignored.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the US and around the world.

In fact, there are more deaths associated with heart disease than all the cancer’s combined.

So what can you do to raise awareness for your family, friends, and more importantly, yourself?

Heart Health

Heart disease is the leading cause of death among both men and women.

Now, most of the time, poor lifestyle, poor diet, and lack of exercise may be the biggest culprits.

And your doctor may prescribe different medication designed to control different health risks, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or high triglyceride levels.

Now, for some people, this may work wonders for their overall health.

But for others, it may not!

Did you know that roughly 50 percent of people who have had a heart attack, had normal LDL (or your bad) cholesterol levels?

It’s true!

Now people are finding out all kinds of new things in regards to cholesterol, bad cholesterol, good cholesterol, particle size and shape, and other interesting things.

But for today, I want to share with your some things you should start now, that may drastically cut down your risk for heart disease.

3 Important Steps

There are three important steps that you need to adopt today, in order to reduce your risk,

First, you need to change your daily lifestyle habits.

If you don’t exercise, there’s no better time than the present to start.

Exercise has been shown to have positive effects on cholesterol, weight, FAT, and blood pressure.

And this may lead to better heart health, therefore reducing your risk for suffering or dying from a heart attack.

Second, you need to change your diet.

Now, you should include a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, healthy fats, and plenty of fiber.

And to take it a step further, you need to include berries into your diet plan.

Yes, that’s right!  Strawberries, blueberries, acai berries, and others have been shown to reduce the risk for having a heart attack by nearly 33 percent.

Changing eating patterns may lead to alterations in many of your cardiovascular risk factors, like positive changes in your weight, blood lipid levels, and blood pressure.

Third, you need to drink more water.

You know how you feel when you are dehydrated.

Now, think of your heart being dehydrated.

Not only does water help reduce the effects of dehydration, but it also may clear your body of toxins that may wreak havoc in your system.

Dehydration makes your body work that much harder to do its everyday activities.

And when you are dehydrated, you may find yourself at a higher risk for developing cramps, muscle aches, and maybe even joint pain.

In order to avoid this, you need to make sure you are drinking plenty of water.

It’s been shown that drinking a glass of water before a bath or shower may lower your blood pressure.

Plus, drinking water before bed may reduce your risk for having a stroke or heart attack while you sleep.

Now, if you’re looking for another way to reduce your risk, then you really need to read the following for important information on heart health and your overall health…
