Labels Don't Help You Follow Healthy Eating Guidelines

Would you like some good, honest help in following healthy eating guidelines? There has been a big push for the government to clean up the nutrition label loopholes and for good reason.

Here is one example: Vitamin Water has only 50 calories per serving. Plus they add all those vitamins. Must be good for you and perfect for dieters following healthy weight loss diets, right? Think again. Look at the serving size and servings per container: 8 oz per serving and 2.5 servings per 20 oz container.

Now who buys a bottle of vitamin water and only drinks 1 serving and saves the rest for later?  It is only a 20oz bottle and most people drink the entire bottle, which equates to 125 calories.  Not 50 calories.  This is a perfect example of how using sleight of hand in regards to serving sizes makes you think that you are doing some good and controlling your calories.

There are many more examples like this and I would love for you to leave them here on the blog.  Let’s make it blatantly obvious that you have to closely read the food labels.  This is the only way to know what you are really consuming and to make an effort at following healthy eating guidelines.
