Vitamin D Levels Affect Your Healthy Weight Loss Plans

Vitamin D used to be something the experts thought we would never be deficient in because we can get so much of it from the sun.  Well, skin cancer risks changed that and now we use sunscreen so much that we don’t get as much Vitamin D from the sun as we used to.  Also, for those living in seasonal climates, their Vitamin D levels drop considerably in the fall and winter months.

This has lead researchers to some interesting findings.  Not only are they finding that Vitamin D deficiency is likely a major cause in getting the seasonal flu, but that it also can lead to weight gain and raising your body’s natural set point for bodyweight.  This can mean your weight loss diet is not as effective as you think it should be.

Vitamin D is a very hot topic with the H1NI flu virus being in the news so much.  It is gaining credibility as more research shows a relation among low Vitamin D levels and weight gain and obesity.

So here are some solutions.  Spend 15 minutes per day in the sun without any sunscreen on if possible and for those that are in climates that don’t allow you to be outside much then supplement with a Vitamin D3 supplement.  Experts suggest that you consume 2,000 IU per day to fight off the seasonal flu and to make sure your Vitamin D levels in your body are at a therapeutic level.  Of course check with your doctor regarding your individual Vitamin D levels and health plan.
