How Does Milk Affect Meal Replacement Drinks?

Protein shakes are used for both meal replacement drinks (weight loss) and muscle building drinks (weight gain).  When making a protein shake, is it beneficial to use milk instead of water or does this add unnecessary and detrimental calories?

It depends on your goals.

If you are looking to gain weight and build muscle faster, use milk because it provides a few more calories and protein.  If  weight loss is your goal, use water to make high protein meal replacement drinks that do not have you consuming extra calories that you most likely do not need.
