How Healthy Weight Loss Diets Are Affected By Protein

Have you ever heard that protein burns more calories than carbohydrates or fat, and do you know what this really means for your healthy weight loss diet?

If you eat 100 calories of just protein, your body uses 24-27 calories to digest and utilize that protein.  So your net calorie consumption is around 75 calories.  However, if you eat 100 calories of carbs or 100 calories of fat it only takes your body about 4-5 calories to digest and utilize those.  So your net calorie consumption is around 95 calories.

Protein has many other important functions that help you speed up your metabolism and burn more fat, but this is a key one because if you include plenty of protein in every meal, your net calorie consumption will be lower.  Naturally, your healthy weight loss diet will be more effective.
