Tips For Healthy Eating At Night

Question:

I like to eat 6 times a day, and due to my work schedule, I eat my last meal around 9:30pm and go to bed about 1-1.5 hours later.  My last meal would be an apple with 2 Tbsp almond butter or substitute the apple for a bunch of celery.  Is there a cap on how late I should eat my last meal before going to sleep?

Answer:

As long as you are eating the proper foods, there is no cap on how late you should eat your last meal.  When eating the right foods you can actually improve your body's recovery and repair process so that you are more ready for your next workout and day.  Your body needs nutrients at night because this is when the majority of your repair process takes place.  So it isn’t smart to fast for a long period during this repair process.  Making good choices and eating healthy food snacks like you suggested will provide some healthy calories and nutrients to assist with the repair process.
