Vitamins For Women Are Not The Same As Vitamins For Men

Vitamins for women should be specifically geared towards women’s nutritional needs.  Because of the way women’s bodies work, they have different vitamin and mineral needs than men do.  Since men have different needs than women, the opposite gender’s vitamins will do in a pinch, but to get the most out of what you’re ingesting, it should be geared toward your body.

The giant commercial vitamin industry that bombards us with commercials telling us how much healthier we can be with their products knows this and at least pays lip service to making sure there are different vitamin recipes for men and women.  However, there are a couple of problems with this.

The first is that this industry is unregulated, meaning that there are no required levels of actual vitamin content and it’s all done on what amounts to the honor system, but with billions of dollars of profit at stake.  Sadly, this often means that more profit can be rung out of a pill with less actual vitamin content.

Another problem is that the large industries have a goal of mass marketing.  That is, they will sell to anyone, whether that person has a use for their product, or their entire product line or not.

Nutritional science has shown, for example, that fat-soluble vitamins can actually build up to toxic levels in a person’s body.  Now, you have to be ingesting levels that are enormously beyond what you need for that to happen, but a person with a well-balanced diet may not need tons of vitamin supplements to stay healthy and, even if she isn’t doing herself harm, is essentially throwing money away.

Vitamins for women are important of course, but ideally they should have the nutrients they claim to, be developed using natural products and nutritional science, and used judiciously.  Not everyone needs the same thing, which means a generic product will probably not help you reach your goals.

Do you research and take an analysis of your current food intake.  Most people do have nutritional gaps because it is hard to eat a wide variety of fruits, vegetables every single day and make sure there is a variety of colors to get in all the necessary nutrients.  Then you have also have wonder if your stress levels in your body may be using 1 vitamin or mineral more than the other.  This is where a sold whole food based multi-vitamin comes into play to fill in the gaps of your nutritional foundation and make sure you are consuming the minimums for all your vitamin and mineral needs.
