Women's Multi Vitamin Recipes Keep Changing

A couple of decades ago, all a vitamin needed to have it labeled for a woman was the addition of iron.  Today a product labeled as a women’s multi vitamin has a wide range of things depending on what the manufacturer believes will sell the best, which tends to tie directly into what the latest nutritional fad is.

The problem with developing women’s multi vitamins in response to fads or the news is that sometimes the health of the buyer gets forgotten in the quest to sell as much product as possible.  It is true that there are frequently new discoveries regarding what’s good for us, but rewriting a recipe simply to sell product doesn’t consider long-term efficacy or interactions.

A good vitamin for women--or men for that matter--is based in solid food science rather than the latest fad.  There are things we know we need and don’t always get enough of in our diets.  This lack is the main reason for taking a multi-vitamin.

This rush to judgment doesn’t even take into consideration the fact that mass marketed women’s multi vitamins aren’t all that well regulated and don’t necessarily have to contain what the label says they do.  This means just changing the label to match the latest fad, and leaving the recipe alone.

Furthermore, most of the extant vitamins are not created out of whole foods that the body can process and use, but are created in laboratories out of chemical constructs that may or may not be absorbed at all.  A truly healthy women’s multi vitamin will be made from real food and really contain what it says it does.  Anything else is literally money down the drain.
