Here's Why I Sometimes Have "Dessert" For Breakfast

By Kevin DiDonato MS, CSCS, CES

You see it all the time…

A guy at the gym, pouring a white powder into a shaker bottle and mixing it up with water!

I must admit, I label this as one of my favorite "dessert" drinks (my guilty pleasure)--as should you!

Have you always wondered what he was doing?  Do you often look down at your own workout recovery drink, only to find it lacking?

Well, if you have, then you may be doing your muscles, body, and fat loss a great disservice…

Whey Protein and Body Composition

As you know, before and after your workout are great times to fuel your body with the right nutrients.

And most people have a protein shake after a workout to replenish lost nutrients and start the process of healing and – in the training world –growing.

But are they correct in this method?

Well, a new study says YES!

Researchers combed through thousands of studies looking for a link between whey protein intake – with and without exercise – and favorably changes in body composition.

To say they found some awesome findings is an understatement!

They were able to use 14 research studies that covered 626 adults. They then assessed those studies to determine if whey protein was able to produce favorable results.

They found that those who consumed whey protein showed significant decreases in both body weight and body fat.

Plus, they found that when whey protein users combined it with resistance training (strength training), there was an statistically significant increase in lean body mass.

They also found that the effects were more significant in whey protein groups than in groups that focused on carbohydrates or other protein sources besides whey.

They authors concluded: “The current body of literature supports the use of whey protein, either as a supplement combined with resistance exercise or as part of a weight loss or weight maintenance diet, to improve body composition parameters.”

Want Changes?  Use More Whey!

If you’re serious about changing the way your body looks, runs, and performs, then there is one thing you need to do…

And that is to include more whey protein!

According to the results of a recent meta-analysis (a review of a collection of articles related to the topic) revealed that those who used whey protein lost significantly more weight and body fat.

Plus, when strength training was also included, the use of whey protein significantly increased the amount of lean muscle mass.

So if you want to lose more weight… More fat…  And put on more muscle, consider using a whey protein supplement before or after your workout.
