But did you know that inflammation may be the reasons why you experience the symptoms that you do?

Prior to ovulation, your cells in your uterus may undergo a change.

The fatty acid balance may shift in the phospholipid makeup of your cells' membranes.

And this may allow inflammatory mediators to flood your uterus, possibly increasing inflammation.

Prior to menstruation, your body may release an abundance of arachidonic acid, which is a type of omega-6 fatty acid.

As a review, there are many types of omega fats, but we are interested in two of them for the moment: omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.

Increased omega-6 fatty acid may increase your production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes, which are powerful inflammatory mediators.

Omega-3 fatty acids work in the opposite.

Omega-3 fatty acids compete for prostaglandin synthase with omega-6 fatty acids.

Prostaglandin synthase is an enzyme that may reduce omega-6
or omega-3 into prostaglandins

And when omega-3s win the battle, they release anti-inflammatory prostaglandins, therefore possibly lowering inflammation.

So back to PMS…

The release of prostaglandins may cause your most common PMS symptoms.

They include:

• Vasoconstriction of your uterus

• Myometrial contractions

• And ischemia

Having vasoconstriction and ischemia may slow the amount of oxygen-rich blood that may reach your uterus, which may create even MORE PROBLEMS.

And this may leave you a VERY MISERABLE person to be around.

But there is hope!

Krill Oil and PMS

Krill oil contains omega-3 fatty acids, bound by a phospholipid backbone.

Omega-3 fatty acids are considered essential fatty acids, because your body is unable to synthesize them.
