4 Ways To Better Heart Health
If you or someone you know has high blood pressure, then making these FOUR simple lifestyle changes, research shows, may SIGNIFICANTLY reduce your blood pressure and drastically improve your health.
You see, the problem with high blood pressure is this:
High blood pressure increases your risk for chronic diseases, like heart attacks, bleeding from your aorta (main artery to your heart), heart failure, vision problems, and STROKE.
However, taking IMMEDIATE steps NOW could drastically improve your health, lower your blood pressure, and reduce your risk for all those health related complications listed above.
Unless you have health conditions that cause a rise in your blood pressure (kidney disease, adrenal gland problems, medications, or narrowing of your arteries), then most likely your lifestyle factors are playing a VERY LARGE role in why, or even how, you developed high blood pressure in the first place.
But what is the solution?
I’m so glad you asked!
Factors such as smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, lack of exercise, lack of veggie intake, and not maintaining a healthy body weight, have all been shown to contribute to high blood pressure.
And there’s more!
Why Your Arteries Are Like a Highway
Before you learn why these factors are necessary to improve your blood pressure risk, you should know a little bit about the system in your body, your circulatory system, that also contributes to your blood pressure.
Your circulatory system is an endless maze of interconnected vessels, winding and twisting their way throughout your body.
This is where oxygen-rich blood flows (arteries) and drops off nutrients in your organs and cells, leaving oxygen-poor blood to be circulated back to your heart and lungs.
Once back at your heart and lungs, it picks up more nutrients (oxygen), and then proceeds through your body, delivering its fresh payload back into your body.
This constant process occurs every minute in your body, and without it, there would be some dire health complications as a result.
Research has shown that your arteries may become very rigid and narrow, due to hardening of the arteries or molecules that cause your vessel walls to constrict or shrink.
All of which could increase pressure in your veins and arteries, accounting for some potentially high blood pressure readings.
Blood pressure, simply put, is the force exerted on the artery wall from the blood racing through it with every beat of your heart.
It is measured as a high and low number, which is called your systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
Normal blood pressure is 120/80 and anything 140/90 or higher is considered high blood pressure.
Now, a high-salt diet has been linked to high blood pressure, which could be one reason why the DASH diet is often prescribed to patients suffering high blood pressure.
The DASH diet is a lower-sodium diet that was developed by the American Heart Association in order to reduce the sodium intake of heart attack patients, and patients at risk for heart attacks.
However, when dietary means do not work, doctors and cardiologist alike, turn to blood pressure medication, to get your pressure back under control.
Is there a better solution to high blood pressure than taking ANOTHER pill?
Of course there is!
The SOLUTION to High Blood Pressure
Researchers in Finland recently published a study that focused on 4 HEALTHY LIFESTYLE TRAITS, and how they affected blood pressure measurements in 9,637 men and over 11,000 women, over a 16, yes I said, 16-year period.
They determined that these lifestyle areas greatly increased or decreased the chances of developing high blood pressure later on in life.
They showed that men and women who:
1) regularly ate veggies
2) maintained a normal body weight
3) monitored their alcohol intake (low to moderate drinking), and
4) exercised at a moderate intensity at LEAST THREE TIMES per week
showed a significant decrease in their risk for high blood pressure.
Amazing!
And they concluded that only ONE-THIRD of people who had ALL FOUR healthy lifestyle traits developed high blood pressure compared to those who didn’t have any.
Reduce Your High Blood Pressure Risk
Everyone is looking for ways to become healthier, happier, more fit, and reduce their risk for chronic disease.
One of the most common concerns among men and women: the risk for developing heart disease, or at least one condition of the many conditions that is often associated with heart disease.
High blood pressure, which is a very common health condition and that, research suggests, may lead to heart attacks, strokes, kidney disease, and other often serious health conditions.
But, the good thing is, you NOW possess the knowledge, skill, and motivation to change your lifestyle, which could alter your risk for high blood pressure.
So here is your checklist:
1) maintain a healthy body weight
2) exercise at least three times per week at a moderate pace
3) include at least ONE serving of vegetables (preferably more!)
4) limit your alcohol intake.
These are just FOUR simple changes that you can make NOW, which could drastically reduce your risk for high blood pressure.
